ABOUT CATALINA's publisher

Media entrepreneur, author, speaker and journalist Cathy Areu is CATALINA magazine's founding publisher and editorial director.

Cathy started her journalism career in college when she published a piece on women's rights in a sociology/anthropology journal. Later, she worked as a staff writer for her university's award-winning newspaper, The Florida Flambeau.

After teaching journalism and ESL as a public high school teacher, Cathy went on to write for the Chicago Tribune's Sun-Sentinel, The Washington Post, USA Weekend, and People magazine. She also served as a White House correspondent for the Hispanic magazine VISTA.

In addition to CATALINA, Cathy has written, produced, and hosted regular CATALINA “Vida” lifestyle segments for
New York City’s only 24-hour Spanish news channel, NY1 Noticias. She is also a professional speaker, exclusively represented by the American Program Bureau. Cathy is also the author of the top-selling inspirational book, Latino Wisdom: Celebrity Stories of Hope, Inspiration, and Success to Recharge Your Mind, Body, and Soul.

Cathy has a masters degree in English education, and is a former journalism high school teacher and college professor, having taught for Palm Beach county schools and the University of Utrecht, Holland.
